Many thanks to the Cheverly-Tuxedo Fire Department for visiting Weekday Nursery and showing us their gear and equipment. We learned a lot, including the emergency number (911), stop, drop & roll, and not to hide when there's a fire -- yell "Here I am!" instead. The firefighters strongly recommend that your family create am emergency plan -- decide on a spot away from your home to meet and practice ways to get out of the house in case of emergency. Also, make sure to teach your children their address!
And thank you to Officer Katrina David of the Cheverly Police Department for visting us and teaching us about safety issues. We learned a lot from you!

About Weekday Nursery
Cheverly Weekday Nursery offers developmentally appropriate activities and learning for children ages three to five. The program has been in serving the community and local families since 1970.
At Cheverly Weekday Nursery, we provide children with a place to grow outside the home, and help our students learn more about themselves in relation to other children, to adults other than the parents, and to the world around them. We strive to help children grow in the richest, most satisfying, most constructive way while preparing for the school years ahead. Learning is hands-on, and designed to develop independent thinking, self-sufficiency, social and emotional maturity, and readiness for kindergarten. Children enjoy multiple free-play areas (including water, sand, art, dramatic play, blocks, science, manipulative games and toys), story and music times, educational field trips, and more. In addition, children receive speech, language, vision and hearing screenings, personalized attention, and the opportunity to participate in annual Christmas and spring programs. Your child will be given the freedom to grow and learn in an environment balanced with enough guidance and structure for each child to feel secure.

About
Mother's Day Out/Early School Program/Summerfun Program
Mother's
Day Out and the Early School Program, started in 1977, offer a calm yet
stimulating environment for early learning. We work to make your child's
first steps from home to school a positive experience so that they will
eagerly look forward to future school experiences.
Mother's
Day Out, which meets Tuesdays 10:00am-2:00pm, focuses on expanding your
child's knowledge and awareness of the world through stories, games, crafts
and learning activities. Children in this program build self-esteem and
security, develop appropriate interaction with other children, enhance
large and small motor skills, learn to follow directions and become aware
of their capabilities.
The
Early School Program, which meets Thursdays, 10:00am 2:00pm, focuses on
readiness skills. Curriculum for older students includes pre-reading,
opposites, phonics, math and other age appropriate skills. Younger students
focus on colors, shapes, rhymes and counting.

The
Music at School series benefits the Cheverly Weekday
Nursery and Mother's Day Out programs for young children. We bring a variety
of music to children and their families in the Cheverly area, allowing
them to experience live music performed by familiar people -- parents
and other people the kids know. We encourage children to take an active
interest in music, and families to pursue more opportunities to expose
their children to a wide array of musical styles. In our first year, we've
offered performances by classical pianist Naoko Maeda and rock band Soul
Revolver.
We're looking
forward to more concerts next year, including performances by jazz musician
& composer Dino Efantis, and an encore show by Soul Revolver. Interested
in learning more about the series? Email
us.

Thank
you to the 100+ people who joined us for our second concert in the Music
at School Benefit series! We're so grateful to Soul Revolver (Charles Andrews,
Kelly Fisher, Brian Jarboe and Brian Youmans) and to the teachers and parent
volunteers for sharing their time and talents for this series. Click on
the photo to see a clip from the last concert! |

Thanks to the many volunteers who made our annual Truck Touch a great success again this year. We rely on this major fundraiser to help us keep our costs as affordable as possible to as many families as possible. Without the amazing support of the community, this event would not be possible.
